Shaina’s journey at the Nature Place began as a camper at the age of twelve. She worked as a counselor for many years before working as an administrator. She has been a professional educator for over 10 years and finds working as a high school ceramics teacher to be very rewarding. She also has experience traveling internationally with teenagers, leading community service projects and trekking.
As the social administrator Shaina is significantly involved in staff training, both during camp’s staff orientation week as well as ongoing throughout the summer. She provides support for counselors in all forms of their communication: co-counselor dynamics, camper dynamics, and parent communication being primary examples. During the summer you will often find Shaina engaged in an activity or game with campers that builds teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. She takes a hands-on approach to behavioral issues and provides conflict resolution as needed. Beyond her work keeping the peace and ensuring that campers and staff feels safe and supported, Shaina’s 20+ years at the Nature Place make her an invaluable resource in all aspects of daily operation.
Shaina has a BFA in Ceramics, BS in Art Education, and MA in Studio Art from SUNY New Paltz. She is the recipient of the NYSATA (region 7) 2017 Art Educator of the Year Award. Shaina is also a certified yoga instructor.
