Mingle with other book/nature lovers, get yourself a copy of What Color Is the Wind if you haven’t already, and enjoy the delightful combination of good food, music and a great book!

The Bees Knees
Sunday, April 15th. 11:30am-12:30pm
285 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

Explore the fascinating world of honeybees with The Nature Place Day Camp as we look at, learn about, and get as hands-on as we can with the seven bee hives in the Pfeiffer Garden. Beekeeper Megan will lead us into a busy world of beeswax, ‘bee dancing’, and apiary amazement! We’ll have a look inside a hive and see why bees matter to us and our planet.

Celebrate Earth Day
Saturday, April 21st. 10:30am & 1pm
307 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

Come celebrate Earth Day early with The Nature Place. At 10:30am children and their parents can go on a nature walk with Ed and discover nature worth celebrating! (All of it) We’ll make spring bracelets, chase shadows, listen to earth’s music and see how the earth is celebrating its special day.

At 1pm watch our screening of Mother Nature’s Child (www.mothernaturesmovie.com), a film exploring nature’s powerful role in children’s health and development, and the rise of ‘nature deficit disorder’. The Earth Day walk is free, the film screening is $10 for adults, $5 for students. Co-sponsored by Green Meadow Waldorf School and Wecan.

Kickoff Screen-Free Week!
Saturday, April 28th. 2-3pm
307 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

Partnering with Green Meadow Waldorf School, The Nature Place will help kick off Screen-Free Week by leading one of the screen-alternative activities that afternoon. We will ‘feel’ the world through our senses, rather than through a screen. Venturing into some of our 200 acres, we will be walking and perhaps getting a little dirty and wet, so dress appropriately. The more high-tech the world becomes, the more high-touch (getting outside) options we need for our children!

Spring Peeper Hunt
Saturday, May 5th. 7:30-9pm
307 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

Come hunt the harbingers of spring! Well, not really hunt…The Nature Place will venture into the nearby wetlands with boots, flashlights (bring your own!), and eyes keen on spotting spring peepers: tiny, thumbnail-sized frogs! Their loud mating calls will help us spot them, as will the X’s on their backs. Children of all ages are welcome with their parents, and be sure to dress appropriately (boots, warmer clothing) as we’ll be tromping through the mud.

Garden Party!
Sunday, June 3rd. 11am-12:30pm
285 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge NY 10977

A party in the garden! Live music, refreshments, and plenty of hands-on activities. Help The Nature Place gear up for summer by planting, harvesting and eating! The Pfeiffer Garden will be in full bloom, and if you love being outside and getting your hands dirty as much as we do, this event is not to be missed.
