Favorite Summer Camp Moments From a Nature Place Camper

Alma has been a camper at The Nature Place since 2019. In 2025 Alma was part of the oldest group.

What did you like best about camp this past summer?

I loved all of our overnight trips (backpacking, cedar pond, the climbing trip). It was great to spend time in nature with my friends.

What are your favorite Nature Place activities?

I’ve always enjoyed a range of activities but coming first to mind is garden, art and archery. All are the perfect mix of engaging and relaxing and are also very unique activities.

How many summers have you spent at the nature place?

I want to say 7 years

What was your first memory of The Nature Place

The younger group’s rooms are next to this basketball hoop and these four square courts and we used to play so much four-square during lunch and before bus pick-up. We had a lot of fun.

What was your favorite memory from this summer?

We were filtering water on our three night backpacking trip, on the bank of this gorgeous lake, and there was a series of these crazy and hilarious events: kids were tripping, water filters were breaking, we found and then lost a clean half of a tortoise shell. Of course everything was fine in the end and was fun in the moment.

What was the coolest thing that happened on a day hike?

I’ve gotten the honor to see several snakes on my many hikes and every time is just as cool as the last.

What skill or knowledge did you learn this summer?

I learned how to safely get back into a swamped/capsized canoe.

What was your favorite part of your Overnight?

I love sitting around the fire.

What is your favorite spot at The Nature Place?

I really like the picnic tables beside the arts building because I have a lot of fun memories there with friends and it is also nice and shady.

What is the first thing you do after you wake up to get ready to go to camp?

Have a snack and a big glass of water.

What is your favorite camp tradition?

The cookie tree is really fun, especially when people come up with creative songs.

What was your favorite dish at Cooking?

Beet bread. We may not have made it in a year or two but I remember it being really good.

What was your favorite Art project?

I still to this day have this glass panel that has a bunch of leaves and acorn caps set into it with resin on my desk that I made in art.

This or that: chickens or bunnies?

I’d say chickens, they were very fun. I remember when we got a bunch of chicks and my group and I played with naming them.

This or that, Nature's Playground or White Top Water Play?

I’ll say Nature’s Playground, it’s always great to find a cozy spot in the trees and play cards.

What was one thing you liked about your counselor/s this summer?

They were all so kind and patient with us no matter what we did.

Would you like to work as staff when you are older? Counselor, Pond, or activity leader, and why?

It’s tempting, I’d maybe be an activity leader or counselor as I’m not the biggest fan of swimming all day.

Did you try the climbing tree? If so, how high did you feel comfortable climbing?

When I was younger I was much more adventurous. I try climbing every now and then, it was fun but I struggle to get over my fear of heights.
