NYC Family’s Perfect Summer

The Nature Place Day Camp holds an exceptional space in our family’s hearts! This camp is warm and friendly and makes you feel that you belong. My daughters have been attending for four summers now, and they look forward to returning next year. The nature place philosophy offers a deep connection to nature and a wide variety of creative activities prioritizing children’s needs and involvement in active participation in their creations. As a parent raising children in NYC, knowing that your kids can benefit from this experience, swimming at the Pond, going on hikes, and staying for campfires and overnights in nature with staff that cares for them is priceless.

Our NJ Family Loves The Nature Place

The Nature Place Day Camp is special. Campers spend time outside all day… My 6-year-old son has enjoyed art, woodworking, cooking, climbing trees, mucking, hiking, learning outdoor skills, music, every day swimming, gardening, drama, and more.

Staff and counselors are warm and well trained. Their groups are like a family. Many counselors used to be campers, which shows how The Nature Place Day Camp is loved.

A Joyful Escape from Manhattan – Our Daughters Love Every Summer

Both our daughters have taken the bus from Manhattan to Nature Place for many joyful summers and return happy and dirty after playing in the fairy stream and the farm, putting on plays, swimming every day and learning things like archery and African drumming. Nature Place is a very special place and a welcome antidote to stressful city living.

Perfect Summer Camp for Adventure-Loving Kids Close to Bergen County

Our active, social, adventure and nature-loving 11 year old son could not be happier here! The team is great and the activities are right up his alley. Combined with their attention to the social and emotional needs of our kids and freedom from technology and unnecessary competition this is the summer camp I would have loved to have gone to. Thank you Nature Place we plan to return year after year after year!

Easy Bus Transportation from NYC

My 9-year-old had a great experience at The Nature Place this past summer. We were looking for a nature & outdoor-focused, non-competitive & non-sports focused camp, and this was the perfect fit. Great activities, lovely facilities, very warm and welcoming camp culture, easy bus transportation from NYC. Highly recommend.

Our Westchester Kids LOVE This Camp

My first child started at The Nature Place the summer of 2020… Non-competitive. Inclusive. And built around the respect and love of nature. Two summers ago, we started sending my 4 year-old twins. They’re all very different from one another, but they all agree on one thing – they LOVE this camp.

I would highly recommend the Nature Place camp! My 6-year daughter had such an amazing summer, she even asked if she could keep going to the camp when she’s an adult! What we love the most about the camp (and what sets it apart from other camps) is the way it allows the kids to unplug, slow down and connect with friends and nature. The activities are not rushed or crammed into the day, but there’s plenty of time for them to transition, enjoy themselves and fully engage in what they’re doing. And that’s exactly what we needed the most after a year of city life.

Thank you for the kind words, Rufei. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Looking forward to more summers with your family!

I can’t put into words how incredible and transformative this camp has been for my son. I wish the nature place was a place my kids could experience year round. From singing every morning, making art in nature, mucking, dancing, hiking… the list goes on. Thank you so much to the staff of the nature place and to those that keep this amazing place going. I don’t think my son would be who he is today if it weren’t for you and he was only there for 6 weeks. He truely just lit up this past summer. Can’t wait for next summer and all the summers to come!

Sarah, this review touched us so much. Thank you for sharing! We look forward to many wonderful summers with your family.

Nature Place is a beautiful day camp! The kids are in nature all day long and all the activities are unique. In woodworking, the kids learn to use a saw, a hammer and nails, and how to sand their sculptures. In African dance and drumming, every kid gets to use a drum. As a dance educator myself I was very impressed by the camps choice to include West African dance. This dance form is a fun, athletic, accessible, and community oriented introduction to dance the camp director is extremely personable and made himself available anytime I had a question or concern. I highly recommend sending your kid to the Nature Place if you want your kid to be outside, getting their hands dirty, getting to swim in a pool that looks like a pond, and challenging themselves in a safe and creative environment all summer long!

Ava, thank you so much for these kind words. It was a joy to have your camper here, and we look forward to more great summers with your family!

We sent both of our kids (age 9 and 11) to The Nature Place for the first time this past summer. They absolutely loved it! They both made friends that they are staying in touch with, and learned many interesting things about the outdoors, plants, etc. There were many interesting activities that they looked forward to each week as well. Communication with us from the camp was frequent and clear, and there was a real sense of being part of an extended family. We absolutely will send the kids back again next year.
Response from the owner 14:35 24 Sep 25

John – thank you for these kind words. It was wonderful having your kiddos here and we look forward to more summers with your family!

Our 7 year old daughter participated in The Nature Place this summer, and it’s among the best decisions we’ve made. She had the most amazing summer the entire time, regardless of the weather. From swimming in the Pond, to “mucking” in the stream (her favorite activity). She gained confidence, learned about the natural world and looked forward to each day. We even participated in an overnight family camping experience – her first! I can’t say enough positive things about Jason, her counselors and all of the staff. We can’t wait for her to return next year. We just wish we could go with her!
Response from the owner 14:38 24 Sep 25

We are incredibly moved by your words – you captured the heart of camp. Thank you! We are so looking forward to more summers with your family!

The Nature Place is a very special camp. My son enjoyed the non-rushed, non-competitive wilderness focused environment. From mucking in a stream to an overnight camping in a tent, my son had a very successful camp experience. I highly recommend especially for those who may have not thrived at other day camps- this one’s different!
Response from the owner 14:23 11 Sep 25

Thank you, Caitlin. We’re so happy he had a great summer!

Hands down, the BEST summer camp experience for kids. NPDC is so thoughtful with all that they do and really provide a space for kids to do what they should be doing in the summer—exploring, making friends and having fun! The non-competitive environment allows kids to thrive and work together to grow and be curious. All staff— TOP NOTCH! Funny, welcoming, patient and kind. The director and staff seem to know every child by name, which is some wizard level magic. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year!! Thanks for all you do!!
Response from the owner 13:36 11 Sep 25

Rachel — your kind words mean the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to share. You’ve captured the very heart of the experience we hope to create. Looking forward to many more wonderful summers with your family!

We have been a Nature Place family since the summer of 2021, when my daughter was 4 years old. We are going into our 5th summer now and we cannot say enough positive things about this magical camp. The staff is outstanding. I have seen them direct traffic like a well oiled machine in the pouring rain, while keeping all the campers and staff inside safe. They know each of my children by name and greet them as such each morning when they take them from my car. The variety of activities they engage in is diverse and fun. My kids have done things at camp that I’d NEVER think they would do, like rope climbing trees all the way to the top and jumping off the board into the deep end of the pond. The daily swim instruction is fantastic and we always see improvement by the end of the summer. The 6 weeks my kids spend at The Nature Place is one of the brightest spots of their year. They can’t wait to go back!

Carolyn — Thank you for this wonderful review and for being such an integral part of our camp family over the years! Looking forward to another wonderful summer with your kiddos.

My daughter LOVES her summers at The Nature Place! And I love to have such a wonderful place for her to be when school is out. My 5 year old can take a 3 mile hike! And gained tons of confidence with the skills she learned swimming and climbing. I’m so impressed with what she can do and so incredibly grateful to all of the encouraging, warm and engaging counselors and staff! Everyone is so wonderful that even my shy, quiet girl comes out of her shell and just has the best time. 10/10 recommend for meaningful, fun, engaging summers!

The Nature Place Day Camp is a wonderful experience for kids! My son attended last year and the year before and every day was a blast for him! The staff are the most upbeat friendly people, the facilitators are total pros, and the activities are fun, energetic, and leave the kids wanting more. An all-round terrific program on a beautiful campus with tons to do including overnight sleep-away camping adventures for the older kids. Highly recommend! Worth every penny.

My two kids went here and it was truly life changing. They absolutely LOVED every single minute there. The staff was sincerely caring and treated all the children as if they were their own. I knew my kids were safe, happy, and having an enriching experience. Recently my daughter was awoken by a bad dream and as I was laying with her I told her to imagine herself in a place that makes her happy. I asked her where she imagined herself and she said “At camp. I’m happy at The Nature Place.” I mean that right there says it all! We will be part of the Nature Place family for a very long time!

Our son has attended The Nature Place camp for the past 3 years and loves it. We have had a wonderful experience each year and will be returning next year. The camp director, staff and counselors are all very attentive and kind. I would highly recommend! Our son has made friends that he stays in touch with throughout the year. It is a very nurturing and most of all – FUN atmosphere. My son especially enjoys the day hikes. Our family now goes hiking at his request!

My camper felt wanted and seen

“I felt overjoyed that he was welcomed and appreciated for being who he is. I know if your words touched me, my camper felt them even more deeply. I could feel his enthusiasm about his adventures and the new experiences he was being exposed to as he told me about his days. You made him feel wanted and seen, and it did wonders for his self-esteem.”

Truly amazing summer

“Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for giving our campers a truly amazing summer. Each day, they came home exhausted and dirty–a sure sign of a good time! However, they were filled to the brim with stories of their day at camp.”

– Rachel & Rob

Dedication and care of your staff

“My camper has come home with a newfound appreciation for nature and a significant improvement in her swimming skills, both of which are thanks to the dedication and care of your staff. It’s clear that she not only learned valuable skills but also formed lasting memories that she will cherish for years to come.

I am genuinely grateful for the positive impact your camp has had on her. The environment you have created for the children is remarkable, and my camper’s enthusiasm each day was a testament to the nurturing and engaging experience the camp staff provides.”

– Sobeida

Gratitude

“THANK YOU for an amazing summer.  My camper came home every day beyond excited to share whatever new thing they’d done that day.  Her mind was absolutely blown by all there was to do and try…  and her joy in sharing it all lit us all up.  She has already declared that she WILL be going back to The Nature Place.  You run an impressive operation!  Thank you for opening her world this summer.  We will definitely be back next year and will be excited to send her little brother too.”

A magical place for all types of kids

“Thank you and your staff for such an amazing experience this summer. My daughter has come into her own, and we know that spending the summer at the Nature Place was instrumental to this growth. The friends she has met and reconnected with, the counselors’ engagement level, and really fun activities were all invaluable to her. Thank you for giving her the opportunity to be herself. My son has also come into his own this summer. He is much more comfortable in nature, and has taken on an interest in gardening! He made some great friends this year as well, and he felt totally at ease this summer. Thank you for giving him the space to take risks and just be a kid!

Thank you for everything you do to make this camp a magical place for all types of kids!”

Kids feel as if they are part of a family

“My 13 year old son started at The Nature Place Camp at age 9 and absolutely loves it. He has made very good friends there that he sees in the winter. It is a warm, noncompetitive experience where the kids learn a tremendous amount about the environment. In addition, the hiking and camping skills they learn will last a lifetime. By taking the kids on overnight trips, they slowly learn independence and survival away from our regular comforts of home. The camp is very attentive to his needs. Supervision is excellent on campus and off campus. Since it is not a very big camp, the staff gets to know the kids very well and the kids feel as if they are part of a family. I wish that I could have gone to this camp as a kid.”
– Camper Parent

A welcome relief from stress and competition

“The Nature Place is wonderful. Everyone – from the Camp Director to the counselors to the bus drivers – is warm, kind and deeply committed in making sure that every child has an exceptional summer. Every day, the kids go swimming in the “pond” (actually a zero entry pool with a sandy beach and well-trained instructors. Perfect for nervous swimmers and budding sand castle architects). There’s also a “fairy stream” they can splash in and pan for gold (suuuuper exciting!). It’s just a welcome relief from the stress and competition of life in NYC. My son loved it and we’re planning on returning this summer.”

– Alisha M.

The sense of community and friendship is inspiring

“I cannot say enough glowing things about The Nature Place. It is a really exceptional day camp. The quality and the dedication of the staff is unsurpassed. One of my children has special needs and the camp worked incredibly hard in partnership with us to give my son the best summer of his life. There is such a warm and nurturing culture at camp. It’s a safe space where my children felt confident enough to try new things and take on new challenges. I was blown away by the maturity of the staff and the amazing number of staff members who had grown up coming to TNP. That kind of retention speaks volumes about a camp.

Both of my children left TNP with a true love and appreciation of nature. As city kids we were so thrilled that they got to spend so much time in nature and really explore the natural world. The programs at camp were thoughtful, educational and most importantly, fun. My kids regularly sing songs from camp and double over laughing about the silly skits the counselors performed or the hilarious stories that Chuck the Storyteller shared with them. My kids are very different and have varied interests but they both adored TNP. The array of programs and activities kept them both fully engaged and filled with excitement for the next day.  They loved the overnight trip (and the “almost overnight” for my little one) and often pretend to go on camp outs in their bedroom and relive the fun.

The Nature Place provides a singular day camping experience that just isn’t offered elsewhere.  The sense of community and friendship is inspiring and we are so thrilled that our kids are returning to camp this year. You would truly be giving your child a gift by sending them to The Nature Place.”

– Elyssa G.

It doesn’t get lovelier or more wholesome than this

“It doesn’t get lovelier or more wholesome than this camp. My two VERY different kids have gone for three summers, and I am always amazed at how one camp can make them both so incredibly happy. The staff is devoted, warm, and responsive, and the director’s interest in ensuring that each child feels secure and has a ball is extraordinary. The grounds are beautiful, with a pool that looks like a lake. We love the gentle approach, the non-competitive atmosphere, the nice kids this place seems to consistently attract, the thoughtfulness that goes into programming, the amazing field trips (crabbing or sailing on the Hudson, anyone?), and the animals. Many campers and counselors return year after year, and the continuity builds a wonderful sense of community. We researched tons of camps and feel very lucky to have found this one.”

– Heather W.

NPDC is my happy place

“The NPDC is where my son has spent his last seven summers. He looks forward to each day and refuses to go any less than the full six weeks. Ed & Daniel Bieber have created a program full of opportunities for children to explore, create, and experience everything the outdoors has to offer. My son learned to swim for the first time, hike parts of the Appalachian trail, camp, canoe, forage, take care of chickens, work in an organic garden and simply appreciate the world around him. As I say everyday in the summer, “NPDC is my happy place, too!””

– Camper Parent

It’s all about being outside and discovering nature

“My son and daughter love Nature Place so much. It’s all about being outside and discovering nature. The counselors are caring and fun. The campers swim almost everyday in a gorgeous man-made pond, do arts and crafts, go on hikes and learn so much. It’s a great antidote for busy, modern life.”

– Emmy L.

The staff is attentive, skilled, and genuinely love what they do

“My family has attended the Nature Place for 10 summers.  We cannot say enough good things about this wonderful place.  Camping, canoeing, swimming, farm days, cooking, games, archery, music – it’s really a fantastic place for kids of all ages.  The staff is attentive, skilled and genuinely love what they do.  My kids have become skilled outdoorsmen while learning how to walk lightly upon the earth.  I am grateful for this place.”

– Vanessa L.

Truly feeds the body, mind, and spirit of its members

“I am a mother of four. My children have spent the past four summers here, and plan to return again this summer. My four children are each vastly different individuals, ranging from a teenage chess playing math-science geek, to a sports crazed energetic tween, an artsy music-dancing-singing fanatic, and one that embodies a bit of each with an added twist- an incredible talent for drawing. My kids are not typical. They are super individuals, yet they have all found a place here at Nature Place Day Camp. The camp truly feeds the body, mind and spirit of its members-it is a truly unique place. It is a respite, an oasis of fresh air, green meadows, blooming gardens…and they welcome everyone to be a member. Counselors and staff have gone out of their way to help my children feel welcome and to feel a sense of belonging. The staff works with parents, therapists, etc. to help a child succeed at camp-including special needs children. If you express your wishes, needs and dreams for your child, they will work with you to do whatever they can to make those dreams come true. It has been an invaluable experience for my children. It has been an invaluable experience for me. It is our home away from home.”
